As the summer comes to an end it's time to think about what to do with your outdoor space for the coming year. Maybe you have a complete renovations project in mind or perhaps you just want to make a few changes to freshen things up.

Rayment Excavations can help, whatever you have in mind, we can do. We thought you will need some inspiration. Now would be a good time to look at the latest backyard landscaping trends which are going to become popular over the next few years.

1. Enhanced Nature Gardens

Biodiversity is going to be a big thing this year as we place greater emphasis on the restorative effects of nature in our gardens. So you should be looking to add plants that are attractive not only to us humans, but bees, birds and insects as well.

This trend is known as rewilding and it involves grouping plants together to create a natural environment for native animals. The
BeeAware campaign  lists several examples of how you can create habitats that support bee populations.

2. Split-level gardens

All too often backyards and gardens are on a single level, which restricts the way space can be used. By adding multiple levels you can create a much more interesting and usable space.

In most cases, this will involve hiring some excavation equipment, but don’t worry, this is not as expensive as it sounds. We can supply a wide range of earthmoving equipment at very competitive rates.

3. Neutral colours

The trend for gardens this year is to move away from bright colours towards a more neutral palette. The hard landscaping of your garden or yard should therefore use natural materials where possible which allow the foliage and flowers to stand out.

This type of garden is very soothing and can help you to relax after a hard day in the office. They also work well in urban settings where bright colours are often shaded by other buildings.

4. Multi-function spaces

There is a move for the garden to become more integrated into the home. This means creating multi-functional spaces which can serve as dining rooms, lounges and even game areas.

Traditional landscaping such as stone and concrete can be used to create practical multifunctional areas. You may also want to consider installing slim frameless doors which can be folded away to create a large open alfresco dining/living area.

5. Organic forms

The prevailing design trend for this year is very much about introducing organic shapes and making things look more natural. You can achieve this by avoiding linear designs and focusing on creating different plant layers.

You can also make use of unusual materials such as steel, timber and concrete to create naturalistic looking structures. The voids between the structure can then be planted with a combination of herbaceous perennials and vegetables thereby creating the ultimate contemporary garden.
